[EN] Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Seoul for First-Time Visitors

If it is your first spring trip to Seoul, cherry blossom season can feel a little overwhelming.

You hear the same famous names again and again. But once you actually try to plan a day out, the real question becomes much simpler.

Where should you go first?

This post is for people who are new to cherry blossom season in Seoul.

I am not trying to list every possible place.

I just want to focus on five spots that are easier to understand, easier to visit, and easier to enjoy on a first trip.

Some places feel more iconic. Some are better for walking.

Some are better if you want a softer and less tiring day.

If you start with that mindset, choosing where to go in Seoul gets much easier.

If you want the classic Seoul cherry blossom spots, start with these 5

If you want an easy place to start, try Seoul Forest

Seoul Forest is one of the easiest places to recommend, especially if you do not have a car.

It is quite easy to reach by subway or bus, so it works well for people who want a spring outing without making the whole day feel too complicated. If you just want somewhere comfortable, pleasant, and easy to enjoy, this is a really nice choice.

What I like about Seoul Forest is that it does not feel too intense. It is not just about rushing in, taking a few photos, and leaving. It is better for a relaxed walk, a slow afternoon, and that nice “it finally feels like spring” kind of mood.

If this is your first cherry blossom outing in Seoul, Seoul Forest is honestly a very easy place to start with.

If you want the classic lake view, go to Seokchon Lake

Seokchon Lake is one of those places that almost always comes up when people talk about cherry blossoms in Seoul.

There is a reason for that. The lake walk itself is already nice, and once the blossoms are out, the whole area starts to feel very soft and very spring-like. It is also one of the spots that feels especially good if you enjoy walking while looking around instead of just stopping for a few pictures.

The lake is divided into East Lake and West Lake, and if you read enough reviews, you will notice that a lot of people say the cherry blossoms around West Lake are a little prettier. Of course that depends on personal taste, but if you are going there for the first time, it is definitely worth checking both sides.

It is a popular place though, so if you want a more comfortable experience, going a little earlier in the day is usually a better idea.

If you want the most famous cherry blossom road, choose Yeouido

If Seoul had a “main character” cherry blossom spot, Yeouido Yunjung-ro would probably be it.

This is one of the most famous cherry blossom places in the city, and for many people, it is the first place that comes to mind. When the blossoms are in full bloom, it really gives you that classic Seoul spring feeling people imagine.

It is also where you can really feel the festival atmosphere during the season. So if you want that lively, well-known, “this is one of the iconic places” kind of experience, Yeouido is a strong choice.

That said, it does get crowded.

So I would not recommend it if your top priority is peace and quiet. But if you want to see one of Seoul’s most famous cherry blossom roads at least once, this is the place.

If you want spring views with Seoul city atmosphere, try Namsan

Namsan Park is nice because it does not feel like a cherry blossom spot only.

It feels more like “Seoul in spring.” You get blossoms, walking paths, city atmosphere, and a bit of sightseeing all at once. So if you want your outing to feel like more than just flower viewing, Namsan is a really good option.

Another nice thing is the cable car. If walking uphill sounds tiring, especially with family or older parents, taking the cable car can make the visit much easier ^^

That is why I think Namsan works especially well for people who want a softer schedule and do not want the day to feel physically too demanding.

If you want late-blooming flowers, check Boramae Park

Boramae Park is a little different because it is especially known for double cherry blossoms.

And that matters, because double cherry blossoms usually bloom after the main cherry blossom season starts fading. So if you feel like you missed the best timing for regular blossoms, this can be a really nice backup plan.

The flowers also have a fuller and slightly richer look, so the mood feels a bit different from ordinary cherry blossoms. If you enjoy that soft but slightly more dramatic spring flower look, you may really like this place ^^

It can get crowded too, especially on weekends, so going earlier is definitely the safer choice.

But if you want something less crowded, these hidden spots are worth knowing too

Seoul has plenty of famous cherry blossom spots, but honestly, not everyone wants the biggest or busiest places.

If you prefer somewhere a little calmer, or if you just want a place that feels more local and relaxed, these are worth keeping in mind.

Seoul National Cemetery

Seoul National Cemetery is not mentioned as often as places like Yeouido or Seokchon Lake, but it is still a lovely place for cherry blossoms.

In some ways, that is exactly why it works so well. It tends to feel quieter and less hectic, which makes it better for people who want a calmer spring walk instead of a crowded blossom event.

If your ideal cherry blossom outing is peaceful, slower, and a little less famous, this one is definitely worth considering.

Yanghwa-ro 6-gil in Hapjeong

This one feels a bit like a hidden gem.

Hapjeong and Hongdae are usually known for busy streets, shops, cafes, and nightlife, so not everyone expects to find a nice blossom atmosphere there. But that is exactly why this area can feel unexpectedly charming in spring.

It is easy to get to, and since there are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby, it works really well if you want a casual outing. You can walk a little, enjoy the blossoms, stop for coffee, and not feel like you had to build your whole day around one destination.

If you want something easy, not too tiring, and still very “Seoul,” this one is a great option ^^

Ansan Jarak-gil

If you like walking, I really want to recommend Ansan Jarak-gil.

This is not the kind of place where you just stop, take a few photos, and leave. It feels more like a spring walking course where the blossoms are part of the experience. If you enjoy moving around, looking at the scenery, and feeling like you are actually spending time outdoors, this one has a different kind of charm.

There is also an observatory higher up, so if you do not mind walking a bit, you can enjoy both spring scenery and a wider view at the same time.

For people who like light hiking or walking trails, this can be much more memorable than a typical crowded blossom street ^^

So… which place sounds right for you?

If this is your first cherry blossom outing in Seoul

→ Yeouido, Seokchon Lake, or Seoul Forest

If you want a more “Seoul in spring” kind of mood

→ Namsan Park

If you missed the main cherry blossom timing and still want flowers

→ Boramae Park for double cherry blossoms

If you want to avoid the most crowded places

→ Seoul National Cemetery or Yanghwa-ro 6-gil

If you enjoy walking more than just standing around

→ Ansan Jarak-gil

Honestly, I think this is the easiest way to choose.

Instead of asking “Which place is the most famous?”, it is usually better to ask “What kind of spring outing do I want?”

That question makes the choice much easier.

A small tip before you go

The most famous blossom spots in Seoul can get very crowded on weekends.

So if you can, going on a weekday or heading out a little earlier in the day usually makes the experience much more comfortable. And for places like Boramae Park, where people go for double cherry blossoms, the timing can be a little different from the usual cherry blossom season, so that is worth keeping in mind too ^^

Seoul cherry blossom season does not have to be about choosing the single most famous place.

The famous spots are popular for a reason, but the quieter places can feel just as special in a different way. So this spring, it might actually be nicer to choose based on the kind of atmosphere you want, not just the place everyone else is going.

In the next post, I will move outside Seoul and talk about regional cherry blossom destinations like Jinhae, Gyeongju, Gangneung, and Jeju—places that feel perfect if you want blossoms and a spring trip at the same time.
